Whisper Jazz is a youth-led jazz collective founded by Charlie Zhang and Jack Li, two high school musicians from the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School (BB&N). Born just two days apart in May 2008, Charlie and Jack have played together for more than six years in their school’s Jazz Band. Their long collaboration has shaped a musical language that feels calm, honest, and quietly expressive—much like their own personalities.
The name “Whisper Jazz” reflects this spirit. It speaks to a kind of music that doesn’t shout to be heard, but invites people to listen closely—to find connection and warmth in the subtle spaces between notes.
Through projects such as Where Sidewalks Whisper Jazz in Harvard Square and Where Neighbors Whisper Jazz in Belmont and Newton, the duo brings live jazz to public and neighborhood spaces, blending youthful energy with community purpose. Their performances aim to support music education programs and encourage the next generation of young musicians.
At its heart, Whisper Jazz is a celebration of friendship, empathy, and the quiet power of music to bring people together.
